Classic Retro Game Emulator is a free, ad-supported game player across 11 consoles. It comes with no games — you choose what to download and you make sure you're allowed to play it. It's provided as-is, and your saves live on your phone only.
1. Agreement to these terms
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your use of the Classic Retro Game Emulator app for Android and this website. By installing or using Classic Retro Game Emulator you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
Please also read our Privacy Policy, which explains what the app stores and which network requests it makes.
2. What Classic Retro Game Emulator is
Classic Retro Game Emulator is an emulator front end: software that lets your phone run games written for 11 classic consoles — NES, Game Boy Advance, Game Boy Color, SNES, Sega Genesis, Nintendo 64, Nintendo DS, PC Engine, WonderSwan Color, Arcade (MAME) and PlayStation. It includes:
- a catalog of thousands of games with names, cover art and file sizes;
- a downloader that fetches a game file, and the relevant console's emulator engine, onto your phone;
- a built-in player with on-screen and external-controller input, and save states.
Classic Retro Game Emulator does not include any game pre-installed. A game file exists on your phone only after you tap Play or Download for it. The catalog is a listing; it grants no right to any game.
3. Games and your responsibility
Games, their code, artwork, music and names are protected by copyright and other laws, and are owned by their original publishers and creators. Classic Retro Game Emulator does not own, license or sell any game, and does not determine whether you are entitled to a particular game — that depends on the law where you live and your own rights to that game.
You are solely responsible for making sure you are legally entitled to download, store and play every game you use with Classic Retro Game Emulator, and for following whatever copyright rules apply to you. Nothing in the app or this policy is legal advice.
4. Acceptable use
When using Classic Retro Game Emulator you agree not to:
- use it to infringe anyone's copyright or other rights, or to distribute games you have no right to share;
- copy, resell or redistribute game files you download, or share them publicly;
- interfere with, overload or attack the servers the app connects to, or the app itself;
- reverse-engineer or modify the app to remove its protections, except where the law or an open-source license expressly allows it;
- use the app, this website, or the name “Classic Retro Game Emulator” in a way that suggests a connection with Nintendo, Sega, Sony, or any console maker or game publisher.
5. Third-party content and availability
Cover art, game files and the per-console emulator engines are served by a third-party content server we do not control (see the Privacy Policy). It may change, slow down or disappear at any time, without notice. As a result:
- a cover, game or console's emulator engine may become unavailable, outdated or removed;
- we cannot guarantee any particular game or console will remain playable, now or in the future;
- we are not responsible for that server's content, availability or practices.
Games and emulator engines already downloaded to your phone continue to work without a connection, until you clear or uninstall the app.
6. Open-source and third-party software
Classic Retro Game Emulator includes the EmulatorJS emulator front end and a separate emulation core for each of its 11 consoles (for example FCEUMM for NES, and similarly licensed cores for the others), each provided under its own open-source license — most of these are GPL-licensed. Those licenses apply to those components, and where they require a source offer or license notices, we intend to make those available; this is a known, outstanding item rather than something already finished (see our development notes if you're looking for the current status).
Nothing in these Terms limits your rights under those components' own licenses.
7. Trademarks and ownership
NES, Game Boy, SNES, Nintendo 64, Nintendo DS and Nintendo are trademarks of Nintendo Co., Ltd. Sega Genesis / Mega Drive is a trademark of Sega. PlayStation is a trademark of Sony Interactive Entertainment. Classic Retro Game Emulator is an independent project and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any of them, or by any game publisher. All game names and artwork belong to their respective owners.
The Classic Retro Game Emulator name, logo, and this app's own design and text are the property of the Classic Retro Game Emulator project. You may use the app for your personal, non-commercial use as these Terms allow, and receive no other rights to them.
8. Your saves and data
Downloaded games, save states and favorites live only on your device; there is no cloud copy. Uninstalling the app, clearing its data, or losing your phone removes them. You are responsible for your device and for anything on it you want to keep.
9. Ads and the rewarded-ad step
Classic Retro Game Emulator is free and shows ads, including a short ad you must watch (or cancel out of) before a game plays or downloads — see the Privacy Policy for the full list of ad placements. This is a deliberate part of how the app stays free, not a bug, and may change in a future version.
10. Updates and changes to the app
We may update, change or stop offering Classic Retro Game Emulator or any of its features at any time — for example to fix a problem, follow the law, or respond to a content source that stops working. We are not obliged to provide updates or support.
11. No warranty
Classic Retro Game Emulator is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, non-infringement, or that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or compatible with every device or game. Emulation is not perfect: some games may run imperfectly, slowly on some devices, or not at all. Some laws do not allow these exclusions, in which case they apply only to the extent the law permits.
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, the Classic Retro Game Emulator project is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost data, lost saves, lost profits or device problems, arising from your use of, or inability to use, the app or this website — even if we were told such losses were possible. Because Classic Retro Game Emulator is free, our total liability for any claim relating to it is limited, to the extent the law allows, to the amount you paid for it: zero. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
13. Ending your use
You can stop using Classic Retro Game Emulator at any time by uninstalling it. We may withdraw the app or block misuse of it if you break these Terms or the law. Sections that by their nature should survive — ownership, warranty and liability — continue after you stop using the app.
14. Notices from rights holders
If you own rights in a game, artwork or other material and believe it is being made available in a way that infringes them, tell us which material it is, how you own the rights, and how we can reach you. We will review it promptly and act where appropriate, which may include removing the item from the catalog.
For rights-holder notices, write to muha.syaifudin@gmail.com.
15. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The date at the top shows when they last changed. Continuing to use Classic Retro Game Emulator after an update means you accept the new Terms.
16. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the place where the Classic Retro Game Emulator project is based, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules, except that any mandatory consumer-protection rights you have where you live still apply.
